Shri Kshetra Ganagapur Dattatreya Temple

Sri Kshetra Ganagapur, best referred to as the “Ganagapur Dattatreya”, is one of the most famous Dattatreya Temples and is associated with Sri Narasimha Sarasvati Swamy also known as “Narahari”, an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya. It stands on the bank of the river Bhima in Afzalpur taluka in Gulbarga district of Karnataka. This Nirguna Math is adorned with the Nirguna Padukas. The water of the rivers “Bhima” and “Amaraja”, especially at the spot of their confluence, are considered extremely holy.

 

The universal Guru avatar of Lord “Dattatreya” blesses anyone who he deems worthy. Lord “Dattatreya” is said to have three faces, due to the fact that he was the sum product of the three lords – Brahma Vishnu and Maheshwara. Lord Dattatreya is believed to have reincarnated in the form of Shri Narasimha Swamy.

The Nirgun Math is at the entrance of Ganagapur village, walkable distance from bus stand. The Golden padukas of Sri Guru Narsimha Saraswati are kept there and people take darshan of the padukas. The temple is under a holy Banyan tree. It is widely believed that at Nirgun Math one can get rid of all Evil forces and problems.


The importance of Padukas - Sri Guru Narsimha Saraswati travelled far and wide across the country and later came and lived at Ganagapur for 24 years before leaving to Srisailam where he took Samadhi. While departing to Srisailam he left his Nirgun Padukas

Religious Significance

Ganagapur, a place of pilgrimage associated with Sri Narasimha Saraswati Swamy, the second incarnation of Dattatreya. Devotees believe that by bathing at the confluence between 3.30 am to 4.30 am The “Brahma Muhurtham”, studying the Shri GuruCharita book for 7 days at the Audumbara tree , by begging from at least five houses for 7 days in Ganagapura, and by offering Paduka Pooja at the temple, Sri Narasimha Saraswati Swamy’s Darshana can be Obtained.

We are located at a distance of about 1 km from “Bhima” River. Sai Datta Lodge is a budget accommodation offering 24-hour room service to its patrons.
